Dunnottar Cemetery Stonehaven, various memento mori
Location: Just south of the town the kirkyard is to be found down a country lane and is situated behind the old manse, now entitled Dunnottar House.

Description: Tombstones dating from the 17th & 18th century may be engraved with emblems of mortality, such as skulls, bones, the sexton’s spade and turfcutter, or an hourglass symbolising the sands of time running out the words "memento mori" themselves are sometimes also inscribed . These older stones may be embellished with winged souls, often at the top of the headstone, to represent the hope of resurrection and immortality.
